The Portal — Student side
The Portal is where students live. The student side is called Homebase: a warm, generous Hearth welcome, three or four cards with everything that matters, and nothing that doesn’t.
When Homebase opens
Section titled “When Homebase opens”The student signs in with their magic link. The page greets them by first name, says “Good morning, Margaret” (or afternoon, or evening), and names the program and cohort they are in. Underneath, a single sentence in Hearth voice: “Your next gathering is the January intensive, Jan 7–11, 2027. One assignment needs your attention.”
Everything after that greeting is organized into cards.
Your next gatherings
Section titled “Your next gatherings”The schedule — every upcoming session the cohort is running, newest-soonest first. Each row shows:
- The session title.
- Its kind: Intensive, Cohort call, or Info session.
- When it begins and ends, in the student’s local time.
- Where it is: Kanuga (for in-person students), a Zoom link (for virtual students), or both (for the hybrid students who sit it out virtually once or twice).
If a student’s format is virtual, the room address is quiet and the Zoom link is prominent. If their format is in-person, the opposite.
Assignments
Section titled “Assignments”The student’s monthly work. Each row shows the assignment title and sequence number, the due date, and a Hearth status pill — Submitted, Accepted, Returned with feedback, Due soon, Due today, Overdue. Only open assignments are shown by default (the accepted ones live on the record, but the student doesn’t need to scan them every day). A quiet line underneath says how many are accepted out of the total so far.
If more than five are open at once, the top five show and a short line reads: “3 more after these.”
Tuition
Section titled “Tuition”Two bold numbers — Paid and Remaining — and the list of invoices underneath. Each row has the invoice’s kind (Deposit, Installment, Full), the amount, when it was paid or when it is due, and a status pill.
A quiet line at the bottom reads: “Invoices come by email from QuickBooks. Questions go to [email protected].”
Your certificate
Section titled “Your certificate”Once the student has earned one, a certificate card appears with the verification code and a link to the public verification page. Before then, this card is hidden — nothing on Homebase feels like a countdown.
What the student cannot do
Section titled “What the student cannot do”- They cannot edit staff-only fields on their own record. They can update their phone and their profile; everything else is office-only.
- They cannot upload submissions from Homebase yet — the first version of the portal is a view, not a workspace. Submissions still come in by email while that side is built.
